In May of 2019 Becky Misuraca, a retired pediatric nurse, and her husband, Sam Misuraca, a retired attorney and businessman, founded Building Beds 4 Kids.  With 14 grandchildren, Becky and Sam have a keen interest in the welfare of children, particularly children in need.

In the course of volunteering over the past few years, it became apparent to them that thousands of children in Southeastern Michigan have no bed. These children share beds with family members, or sleep on inflatable mattresses, or sleep on couches or on cots, and sadly some even sleep on bare mattresses or bedding spread on the floor.

Becky and Sam’s hope is that by providing a child with a safe, decent bed, no matter how basic, that child has a better chance of getting a good night’s sleep and a better chance to succeed at school and to succeed at life.

Our team is a small group of caring volunteers who want to help.

We are always ready to welcome new, dedicated team members.

1. We work with our Distribution Partners to identify families in need.  Distribution Partners include religious organizations, public and private agencies, community groups or sometimes just caring individuals who choose to help families in need.
2. The Distribution Partner schedules a bed pick-up with the family.
3. If the family is able to arrange for transportation, the family picks -up the bed(s) from the BUILDING BEDS 4 KIDS Oak Park facility.
4. If the family is not able to arrange for transportation, the Distribution Partner arranges transportation, sometimes using Bed Delivery volunteers.
